The Mac’s are back from the International Standard Rally in the UK. Dear readers. Enclosed are a few photos of the Standard Motor Club vehicles at the international rally, (yes rally) they haven’t been caught up in political correctness like us which we attended recently at Stratfield upon Avon in the United Kingdom. We received a great welcome and were able to talk to quite a few nice people; after all they do own Vanguards. The accommodation at Stratford Manor was excellent at £240 (around $350 Aus) for the weekend which included Friday night BBQ meal and desert, Bed & Breakfast, Saturday lunch, silver service dinner Saturday evening as well as a badge and rally pack, on top of that 2 full English breakfasts were included, great valve. The cars, 120 of them were of a high standard of presentation generally with quite a few to concourse levels. Len and Margret Hay invited us to travel with them in their beaut little 50’s 10 h.p. a really well presented car. Entries included no less than seven pre 1930 vehicles, quite a number of wire wheeled and flying series from 1930 to 1948 with about a dozen or so Vanguards that we saw. A large number of 8 and 10 h.p. models made up the rest. Unfortunately we were unable to see the full field lined up as we had to get to Heathrow and return the hire car this meant leaving Stratfield upon Avon around 10.00 am on the Sunday morning. We covered around 3000 miles in the hire car from Devon and Cornwall in the south to Edinburgh and many interesting places in between. Driver courtesy is way better than in Australia as are the road surfaces which are hundreds of times better than ours! Regards Peter Mac
